We all look forward to Easter and getting together with our family and friends.
With the promise of Spring ahead and the preparations for the Easter break, there's always so much to do. Booking travel arrangements and buying eggs for the children, it's a busy time of year.
But, if you're going away to stay with friends or further afield for some much needed winter sun, have you considered what you'll be leaving behind?
With so much preparation it's easy to forget simple things like the security of your office and home containing more than just a few chocolate eggs as rich pickings for burglars!
The British Crime Survey carried out by the ONS indicates that burglary has reduced by about 75% since its peak in the 1990s and this is partly due to being more aware and better security on windows and doors, but we can still improve on this further. Are you prepared to let someone help themselves to your belongings while you're away?
"With curtains left open for all to admire our beautiful empty homes, it's so easy for burglars outside to see right into your home." says Allan Tofield, owner of Dorset based Richmond Home Improvement Co.
"There are some simple steps to take to keep your home safe and to deter potential burglars from breaking in and helping themselves to everything you've worked for." He says.
Richmond suggest you give your house the ‘lived in' look by using timer switches so your lights come on automatically at night and getting a Neighbour to put your Wheelie Bin out. This can help if you are out late at night or going away.
Ensure your garden and outbuildings are properly lit and secured with suitable locks as garden tools can easily be used to gain entry into the home.
Make absolutely sure all your windows and doors are working correctly and are properly deadlocked. If there are any loose locks or catches, now's the time to get them sorted – not once it's too late! Remember also, it's the rear of your Property that is often more at risk!
