WITH bonfire night just around the corner - one of the most quintessentially British celebrations of the year - it’s a time to get together with friends and family, put on your wellies and coats and head outdoors to admire the fireworks and keep warm by the bonfire with a mug of hot soup.
While there are many professionally organised events around, which of course offer public safety, there is nothing quite like an intimate party with family and friends in your own back garden, where you can enjoy the display from garden, or the warmth and safety of your conservatory?
“A flaming good idea” says Allan Tofield of Richmond Home Improvement, “but do remember to keep your bonfire away from buildings, fences and hedges!”
“Remember to speak to your neighbours if they are planning a party and ask them to please aim fireworks away from your property and also consider your pets. Or why not just invite them round to yours?
“However, be warned…… “ says Allan “If you are planning on having your own fireworks party you must consider safety at all times. You not only need to protect your guests and pets but also need to consider potential damage to neighbours’ property, especially conservatory roofs – if they are polycarbonate. Ensure you aim fireworks well away from the house and that you have suitable extinguishers, just in case anything goes awry - and don’t forget to move your garden furniture out of harms way.
“Most importantly, don’t forget it is probably THE scariest night of the year for pets – forget Halloween! Make sure you keep your pets indoors, shut your windows and doors and close the curtains. Keep pets calm and make sure they have somewhere safe and secure to hide away.
After bonfire night, if you realise you have incurred damage to your conservatory roof or property, don’t forget to give Richmond a call who are always on hand as experts at dealing with all maintenance and remedial works, as well as new installations.
Allan says, “Wishing you all a safe and secure bonfire night.”
